Salt Water Show Down

It’s time to start thinking about fishing! Investors Group Financial Services Inc is hosting the First Annual Salt Water Showdown Fishing Derby, Sunday, August 27th 2017 with a grand prize for an all-inclusive 4night, 5 day fishing adventure for two to Langara Fishing Lodge (must be 19 yrs or older to win). Pacific Coastal Airlines has generously donated return flights from Comox to the South terminal in Vancouver to ease the commute for the winner and their guest, making their way to the classic resort located in Haida Gwaii.

Over $25,000 in cash and prizes to be won, many BIG draw prizes and a hidden weight prize pack for a two night deluxe accommodation for two at the Kingfisher Oceanside Resort and Spa paired with a full day guided fishing trip with Comox Valley’s very own local guide Cliff, of Cliff’s Chinook Charters.

The lower gazebo at Marina Park in Comox, adjacent to the new beautiful sail buildings will be derby headquarters and the weigh in station the day of the event. Each participant will have a chance to win draw prizes even if they come back to the dock empty handed.

The Comox Valley is a diverse community full of recreation enthusiasts. We are also a community of volunteers with many donating their time, money and energy towards hundreds of volunteer based groups. “Investors Group has a passion for giving back and the fishing derby is one way to show our appreciation to the Comox Valley and its residents”, said Don Behan a Senior Consultant with Investors Group and volunteer with the Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue. Proceeds from the Salt Water Showdown will be shared by the Pacific Salmon Foundation and RCM SAR 60. These two organizations being natural choices due to the valuable services they provide. The Pacific Salmon Foundation for their work in restoring wild Pacific salmon and RCM SAR for being there to assist when help is needed the most.

2017 is the year to kick off this inaugural derby as the Pacific Salmon Foundation is celebrating its 30th Anniversary featuring many milestones reached over the last three decades through dedicated donors, volunteers and partners, including some significant investment in the Comox-area. "The Comox Valley is home to a vibrant salmon community that the Pacific Salmon Foundation is proud to support," said Dr. Brian Riddell, CEO and president of the Pacific Salmon Foundation. "Since 1989, the Foundation has provided grants of more than $1.4 million to the dedicated volunteers that enhance stocks and conserve habitat in the area. Those funds were raised through our annual fundraising dinner in Comox, generous donors and events like this one which connect users of the resource with its restoration. Investors Group has been a strong supporter of the Foundation and its efforts in Comox, we're grateful to be a beneficiary of this great event”. The $1.4 million supported 142 projects with a total value of $6.6 million, because community grantees use Foundation grants to inspire matching funds and in-kind donations from the community.
Investors Group has been a supporter of the foundation for over 10 years and is looking forward to the release of the special edition of the Salmon Steward Magazine coming out in May. The Pacific Salmon Foundation (established in 1987) is a charitable organization whose mission is to protect, conserve and restore wild Pacific salmon population in BC and the Yukon.

The Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue local station has been operating for well over 35 years and has a local volunteer base of 60 members who are on call 24-7, 52 weeks of the year. These members provide a valuable service in providing not only rescue services but safety education and training.
